Antique Butter Storage Box

Antique Butter Storage Box

This antique branded wooden storage box is a Scaramanga original. They were once used for product logistics for a long-past Irish dairy producer. We estimate them to be over 90 years old. The last 2 have the branded side painted black so the writing is not clear - see the 5th image.

Scaramanga loves the graphics etched onto these crates. A wonderful piece of history. Today, one of these boxes could be used for multiple users around the home or vintage-inspired office. We love the idea of using one as a re-purposed innovative bookcase or perhaps a side table.

Old Wooden Storage Box size: W36cm x D33cm x H20cm.

The many scuffs and minor scratches add to the vintage appeal of these striking wooden marvels.

We have a selection of these boxes, each a little different from the next...and so there may be slight variation in the texture and graphics. Some crates have a dividing portion. Please let us know when ordering if you would like a crate with or without the partition.

We can date these crates between 1922 and 1937, from the IRISH FREE STATE stamp on the front of the crates. The Irish state came into being in 1919 as the 32 county Irish Republic. In 1922, having seceded from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland under the Anglo-Irish Treaty, it became the Irish Free State. It comprised 32 counties until 6 counties under the control of Unionists, opted out. The 1937 constitution renamed the 'Southern Ireland' state 'Ireland'. In 1949, only 26 counties explicitly became a republic under the terms of the Republic of Ireland Act 1948.
